Post subject: Pathfinder - Cannot find brake light fuse
Archived from groups: alt>autos>nissan (more info?)

I apologize for such a basic question, but does anyone know where I can find
the fuse for my brake light?

I read through my owners manual and it shows the two locations where the
fuses are located under the hood and I did not see anything to signify my
brake light fuse. There was a "tail" fuse which was my tail light that I
actually replaced (becuase that one blew to) as well but I don't see
anything for the brake light. Is it called something else that may not be
so obvious?

I was pulling my trailer today and blew all the fuses relating to my rear
lights. I have a hunch that it uses the "tail" fuse and the reason the
brake light is not working now may have something to do with a remote
starter I had installed. I might have to check that out next if that is the
case unless someone can tell me if I am missing the location or actual fuse.

Thanks for any help.

Mike

You didn't say what year PF, but no matter. There is a fuse box under
the dash by where your left knee might impact! It is very typical to
blow the brakelight fuse when you connect trailer lights. What really
sucks is that with that fuse inoperative, the circuit that locks up your
transmission shifter will not disengage, leaving you temporarily
stranded. Anyway, I replaced mine with a 30 amp, and that took care of
the problem.

The wiring is plenty robust enough to handle 30 amps.

Thanks!

I found the fuse and it was blown, but also had to replace a fuse in my
remote starter too.

It did not seem to have any affect with my transmission. My PF is a 98.

You mean to tell me that when your brake light fuse blows you cannot take
your PF out of Park? That's nuts! Maybe mine worked because I had my
remote starter installed from Best Buy so they might have possibly bypassed
that. Good thing for butchers!! (never thought I would say that) It would
have sucked being stranded..

That circuit is how the vehicle knows you have your foot on the brake.
No foot on the brake, no taking the tranny out of park. I don't agree
with wiring like that, since most people won't know what to do with
their stranded SUV. You would have been stuck had your remote started
not circumvented that circuit.

I checked today and I cannot put my car in gear without putting my foot on
the brake. When I do press the brake I hear a relay right by the gear
shifter. I don't know if that was altered (for the better) when I had my
starter put in but I was able to put it in gear with the brake fuse blown.

My PF is a 98, what year is yours? Maybe they improved it or deimproved
it..
